Detective's Log

He asked me if I knew the East Bay!  Who was he kidding?  I started out in Kensington,  got raised in Orinda and schooled in Berkeley,  lived and worked in Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, Emeryville, Oakland, Piedmont, Moraga, Richmond. . . .  I know the ins and outs of every burg in both counties.  I know what you need me to.  I told him,   "Yeah,  I know the East Bay."

Communities Served

Most of the cities where I work go to some trouble to present themselves on the web; it's only polite to let them show off. Click the fedora for a look;  return with your web browser's 'back' button.

Moving Around

Mostly, people drive to get where they're going in the East Bay.  Public alternatives are available and keep improving.  Our transit services maintain useful web sites.  Busses west of the hills are Alameda-Contra Costa or AC Transit ;  east of the hills is The County Connection .  The light rail network, Bay Area Rapid Transit, is commonly known as BART .  For an index of all public transit in the entire 9-county Greater Bay Area and beyond, here's the hat: .

and off the roads. . .

East Bay Regional Parks speak most eloquently for themselves .  My favorite is Tilden, tucked in behind the crest of the Berkeley Hills.

Higher Education

is well served.  For the home page of the University of California at Berkeley, this is the hat to click.  The East Bay is also home to the California State University at Hayward (click here ), and a reasonable commute to San Francisco State () across the bay.  For community college as well as high school, intermediate and grade school information, refer to 'School Reports' on this page.

Maps, Maps and more Maps!

For any address that interests you, you will find an aerial view, a detailed street map, driving directions, school locator, topographical map, environmental site locator and more, right here. Mark this page and come back whenever you like to this link:

East Bay Culture

has a richness on its own, and is blessed with its immersion in the larger region.  For specific ideas or just for a sense of the amazing scope of it, why not browse through a newspaper or magazine or two?  Here are some on-line choices: the San Francisco Chronicle and Contra Costa Times for the newsprint- oriented; if your taste runs to glossier fare have a look at Boulevards' Guide   or Diablo .

Regional Awareness

encompasses issues beyond current events and entertainment, and is not dependent on commercial media.  The Association of Bay Area Governments is a body that addresses a range of issues impacting the Greater Bay Area and beyond; have a look at their site from this link .  For an example of an interregional issue of interest to every visitor and resident, click to the earthquake information section with this hat .

Weather

if you were wondering, is usually pretty tame.  Have a look at the current forecast with a click of--YOU know!
